Plant Profile: Rhaphidophora tetrasperma

This time around we wanted to highlight a very trendy up-and-coming star in the houseplant scene- Rhaphidophora tetrasperma. You’ll find these guys sold under common trade names like “Mini Monstera” or “Monstera Minima”, although they don’t belong to that genus at all. They do grow similarly, though, preferring to climb and thriving in indirect light and moderate humidity. You can incorporate them into your home décor in lots of neat ways as vines can reach 6’+ in height rather quickly.

I’ve found Rhaphidophora tetrasperma to be one of the easiest and most forgiving plants in my personal collection. Propagation is simple- just cut a piece of the vine below a node, place them in water for a few days or so until you see the white roots develop, then plant them into a moist medium. I like to use sphagnum moss for this stage but you can pot directly into potting soil.
